Prime Minister inaugurates the new Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala, Kerala.

Prime Minister said: “The Sea is increasingly becoming relevant in the context of India’s security interests and we must readjust our military preparedness to this fast-changing environment. The importance of the Indian Navy in safeguarding our vital security interests has become paramount. The Centre is planning to modernise the Nave and equip it to emerge as a three dimensional force.
The foundation for the project was laid in 1987 by the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The Navac cost around Rs. 500 crores and is the largest of its kind in Asia. The academy is built on 2542 acres of land on the coasts of the Arabian Sea in the stunningly beautiful and scenic land of Ezhimala, famous for its rare views of Dolphins, Kannur, Kerala.
The INHS Navjivani would cater to the health-care needs of cadets undergoing training in the academy, personnel posted here and also ex-servicemen.The hospital, estimated to cost Rs.9.01 crore, has state-of-the-art medical equipment.
These are few quoting of Ezhimala from the writings of various well-known ancient travelers:
Marco Polo (1298): “Eli is a kingdom towards the west, about 300 miles from Comari (Kanyakumari)…. There is no proper harbour in the country, but there are many rivers good estuaries, wide and deep.
Abulfeda (1330): “Three days beyond this city (Manjarur, ie. Mangalore) there is a great hill, which projects into the sea, and is described by travelers from afar, the promontory called Hili.
Ibn Batuta (1343): “At the end of that time we set off for Hili, where we arrived two days later. It is a large well-built town on a great bay(or estuary) which big ships enter.
